Simple SMS Support

  • How do I install the demo or full versions of your software.?
The zip file that you download should first be unzipped (uncompressed )on your desktop PC by using an unzipping program such as Winzip.
If you do not have winzip it can be downloaded from here:- http://www.winzip.com
Unzipping the file will give you the automated installation file(s), just follow the instructions in the readme.txt file which will also be extracted from the zip file.

  • How do I uninstall Pocket PC software ?
Just place your PPC in its cradle and use MS Activesync.
Click - Tools - Add/Remove programs. Highlight (blue) the software you wish to remove and click the remove button. This will remove the application from your PPC

  • I seem to have 2 start icons on my PPC to your application how can remove one.
When installing the new programs over the old it is possible to get 2 shortcuts to the application installed. This is easily verified by going into Settings - Menus and scrolling down you will see two identical program icons instead of one.
To erase one of the shortcuts place your PPC in its cradle and use active sync - Explore \ My Pocket PC \ Windows \ Start menu -and delete the required shortcut . This should leave you with one shortcut in the programs menu and cure your problem.

  • I have tried the demo and now want to buy how do I license the software?
Our demo versions are the same file as the full version and are restricted in use only by limited time use. When you purchase from one of our web outlets you will provided with an unlock / serial number in the sales receipt. Entering this code in the application allows unlimited time use, the code is issued is based upon your Pocket PC owner name so please ensure you enter this correctly when purchasing, this ID is case and space sensitive.

  • Does your software work on the HP720 ?
Currently our software does not support the HP720 CE3.0 for handhelds, if we get enough demand for our applications for this platform we will consider porting them over at a later date.

  • When I tried to install the software I got the error message Win CE services not installed.
The error message Win CE services not installed on your machine points to a problem with the install not finding one of ActiveSync entry's in the registry.
When you double click the .exe file to install one of our applications onto your pocket pc, the program first looks in the registry on your pc to locate where the ActiveSync applications manager is.
This is the key it looks for in the registry:-
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\CEAPPMGR.EXE"
The value of this key is the path to the applications manager e.g. Win98 system is normally
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\CEAPPMGR.EXE
The applications manager is the Add/Remove programs window that you see popup when installing / removing apps from your PPC.
Reinstalling Activesync on your pc normally cures this problem.

  • I cannot find any help for the applications on my Pocket PC.
All our applications install a full user help guide on your Pocket PC. To access, when using the application, tap the Start icon and choose Help from the Start menu. This is standard /approved Microsoft way of displaying help for CE/pocket PC applications.
    Hope that helps ;-)

  • What com port do I select for IR in the options screen of one of your applications.
There are some naming problems in the registry with the Pocket PC / PPC2002 regarding IR com ports. The naming of these ports vary depending on your hardware and OS but normally the com port you should select for IR is com:3, this may be an unnamed port in PPC2002.

  • I am having problems connecting my Ipaq with built in Bluetooth to my Ericsson phone.
Firstly in our application under Options - Port select "COM8: Bluetooth Serial port COM8:"
Then to use an Ericsson BT phone on an Ipaq with built in Bluetooth you need to do the following :-
Discover the device by setting the device/phone to discoverable (Extras - Bluetooth - Discoverable on a Ericsson T39/T68) and then running a "Search" routine on the Ipaq (Bluetooth Manager - Search).
Once you have "Discovered" the device you can bond with it by selecting the device in the Bluetooth manager and then selecting Actions-Bond with this device and also on the phone (Ericsson) selecting Extras - Bluetooth - Paired Devices - Add Device. You will then be prompted to enter a pass key on the phone and the Ipaq.
Once bonded you can check and set the services in the Actions menu you need to check/set 'Connect to serial port'.
If you still have a problem you may need to go into Bluetooth Manager - Tools - Settings for All Devices - Serial Port and tick the "Passkey is required" check box and the "Let other devices use this service" check box.
Further information can be found the book that comes with the Ipaq titled "Special Features" "Compaq Ipaq Pocket PC with Bluetooth"

  • I am having problems connecting my Ipaq with built in Bluetooth to my Nokia 6210/6310 phone.
In Bluetooth Manager on your Ipaq discover your Nokia 6210/6310 (Bluetooth Manager - Search). Tick Nokia 6xxx - Save - Save to Group. OK
In Bluetooth manager tap the Nokia 6xxx Icon and create bond with the device entering your Bluetooth pin number. The services for this device will be shown in the Actions menu, tap 'Set as Bluetooth dialup Modem'.
Now in our application options window select communications port BTC1: Bluetooth Port 1:

  • What phones are supported with Simple SMS.
Supported phones are listed in the readme.txt file included in the zip file that you download (demo & full versions). If you are in doubt about your phones compatibility try the demo version first.

  • I am having trouble with setting the service centre number or I get the message invalid service centre number.
First point to note is some phone models do not allow us to interrogate the number of the sms centre that is stored in its memory so it is probably best you manually enter the number under Options > Service Centre number after un-ticking use phone service centre number.
Enter the number in the text box ensuring you do not omit the international prefix number +
Some UK service centres are listed below.

    Cellnet +447802000332
    Cellnet Pay & Go +447802092034
    One2One +447958879879
    UK Vodaphone +447785016005
    Orange +447973100973

  • Does Simple SMS work on the O2 XDA.
Simple SMS was never developed for the O2 xda, it was never envisaged that we would have a market for the application on this device as you get built in SMS software with it. If we get enough demand we will take a look at the possibilities of making Simple SMS compatible.

  • Ipaq 5450 problems.
The new Bluetooth manager software on the Ipaq 5450 can give you a few problems. We have found that it is best to use the Dial up network connection port to access the phone instead of the Bluetooth serial port, this then does not pop the annoying extra Bluetooth manager connection dialog boxes.
To do this first ensure you have gone through the Dial up networking wizard for your phone in Bluetooth manager, then in our application select BTC1:Bluetooth Port 1: as the com port in Options.
